HyTrA (Hydrogen Tryout Area) is a project aimed at developing and testing a hydrogen-based microgrid (HyGrid) for a decentralized, off-grid power supply—specifically tailored to the needs of the African market. The system combines photovoltaics, electrolysis for the production of green hydrogen, storage, and reconversion to electricity via fuel cells, and aims to replace diesel generators as a noisy and emission-intensive emergency power solution. The technical feasibility and economic viability of such microgrids have been demonstrated under real-world conditions.
