PEM electrolyser for high-throughput production
HyVentus
The reference stack for scaling up electrolyser production for industrial applications. Designed for high production rates and efficient performance across a variety of applications. You can purchase this stack as a reference design to serve as the direct foundation for your own production and further development.
Consortium of industry and research
Industry and research worked closely together within the consortium and pooled their expertise. As a result, solutions were jointly developed, tested, and refined with a specific focus on industrial implementation.
To meet the immense global demand for green hydrogen, electrolysers are needed that use renewable energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.
Electrolyser OEMs are currently announcing plans to ramp up their production capacity. However, even these efforts will not be sufficient to reach the planned 10 GW of installed capacity in Germany by 2030 (120 GW in Europe and 475 GW globally).
For this reason, Referenzfabrik.H2 has developed innovative technologies that make it possible to substantially increase the output of electrolyser production. This also generates economies of scale that significantly reduce manufacturing costs. The aim is to close the immense gap between supply and demand more quickly.
HyVentus is a novel electrolyser stack designed specifically for high-throughput industrial mass production. The M300/10 variant consists of 10 cells, each comprising two formed and joined sheet metal plates, known as bipolar plates (BPP). These two half-plates are first cold-rolled at high speed using a newly developed process and then welded together using an electron beam. Between each BPP is the actual proton exchange membrane (MEA), which is printed using a newly developed inkjet process. Embedded in a stable foil frame, the subgasket with the associated seals, and the porous PTL/GDL mats, the stack is formed. This is supplied with electrical energy via the two gold-plated contact plates at each end of the stack. The supply and removal of the media – water and hydrogen, respectively – occurs through channels at the edge of each cell.
HyVentus is suitable for a variety of applications and offers high efficiency. As a result, it represents an excellent solution across a range of key criteria: availability, performance, size, efficiency, service life, and cost.
