As part of the project, the passive high-pressure sheet forming (P-HBU) process was further developed – a process that had previously been realised for high forming pressures for the first time in a project funded by the Saxon Development Bank (SAB). The aim was to significantly increase the process output and thereby create the basis for high-rate production of bipolar plates.
To this end, a servo-electric press was used and the tool was equipped with automatic material feed and trimming. Thanks to these optimisations, output was increased from around 7 strokes per minute in the state of the art to 60 strokes per minute – a decisive step towards economically viable quantities for fuel-cell and electrolyser stacks.
