H2GP – World Final

At the Hydrogen Grand Prix world final in Chemnitz from 21 to 27 August 2025, 60 teams competed against each other with hydrogen-powered mini racing cars. The participants optimised their vehicles in the categories Sprint, Stock, Hybrid and Prototype and completed numerous laps on the 80-metre-long track. The aim of the race series is to inspire young people for hydrogen technology and sustainable mobility.

During the six-hour race, the teams had to change their hydrogen cartridges efficiently in order to complete as many laps as possible. In addition to the competition, there was a varied supporting programme with tours at Fraunhofer IWU and TU Chemnitz, interactive exhibits and presentations from companies such as BMW and Toyota.

High-ranking guests were also on site, including State Minister Conrad Clemens, the Mayor of the City of Chemnitz Ralph Burghart, the sustainability project manager at BMW Dr. Stefan Fenchel, and the Executive Director of Fraunhofer IWU Prof. Dr. Welf-Guntram Drossel. The event impressively demonstrated the research spirit and enthusiasm for technology of the young generation!
